Document Map

I recently installed Word 2010. I'm having a problem with one of my favorite features from Word 2003, the document map. I can't get it to display Heading 3s. I've tried right-clicking on an H2 in the document map and selecting either Show All or Show Heading 3, but without success. Is there a setting I need to make somewhere else, perhaps in the Manage Styles dialog box? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Since you don't see a style separator, this is a linked heading style "painted" on top of a body text paragraph. As you have seen, the result is the same: the heading doesn't show up in the Navigation pane.

The headings are not in a table; they are run-in heads, rather than on their own line. That's all I can think of that distinguishes them from the H1s and H2s. I just opened a Word 2003 file with H3s, and they do appear in the document map.

If you're using the built-in heading styles, the outline level cannot be changed, so it must be okay. Are the Heading 3 paragraphs perhaps in a table? That prevents them from being displayed in the Document Map/navigation pane in previous versions.

I am using the built-in headings, with slight modifications to font and font size, and spacing

How do I verify that the Outline level is defined appropriately? Thanks.

Are you using the built-in headings? If you are using custom headings, verify that the "Outline level" is defined appropriately for the styles involved.
