    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community. As I understand you are not able to install the Office 2013.

The possible cause for the error 1406 during the installation of the program would be as follows:

    • If file does not have sufficient permissions to modify sections of the registry that is required to perform the action. The permission for the Everyone group of the registry sub key noted in the error message is not set to Full Control.
    • There is a third-party application on the computer that is denying the required access to the registry sub key.

You may try the below steps and check if it helps.

    Step 1:

Start the computer in clean boot and try to install the Office suite:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Ensure to restart the computer in normal mode once troubleshooting is completed

Clean boot is performed to disable all startup programs and 3rd party services on the machine and check if they are conflicting with the Office program.

    Step 2:

If the above step fails, you may try giving the permission (full control) to the keys which prompt during the installation and check if it helps.

You may refer to the link below to know how to give permission to the keys:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310426

(Refer to the section Assigning Permissions to a Registry Keyin the above link)

Ensure to take a back up of the registry before modifying it.

    • Hold Windows key + R
    • Copy and paste, or type the following command in the Open box, and then press Enter:

    regedit

    • In the registry window right click on Computer and click export to take a back up before giving the permission.

I hope the above steps helps. If you need further assistance on this particular issue or any other Office related issues let us know and we will be glad to assist you.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Based on the error message, it seems like Office preview for your account has been expired.

You may try using the trial version for Office 365 for a month and then check if it helps.

Refer the following link for more information:

    Hi,

Thanks for your help. But I tried with "fixit" and still failed to install the new office.

I went that link and it shows my office 365 preview has expired.

    Hi,

Try uninstalling and the Office using the Microsoft Troubleshooter and then re-install. In case there are any traces of Office 2013 present in the computer, you will not be able to re-install.

Refer this article to remove the Office suite:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

Save the fixit tool and then use it.

Once Office is removed, go this link http://www.office.com/myaccount  to reinstall Office on the same PC.

    Dear Guruprasad Ra,

Thank you very much for your reply. I tried to install office 2013 in clean boot but it failed. Also I gave full control permission to myself in regedit. However I still cannon install office 2013.

I used office 365 home premium preview before, and uninstalled is using "fix it". Is it possible that it is some remaining stuff of office 365 in register key preventing the new installation?

Thank you again for your help. Hope I can install the office 2013 soon...
