When dragging and dropping a paragraph of text so as to move it, Word hangs and becomes unresponsive.  This happens in normal paragraph.  Not sure if also happens in tables because tend not to do this.

My Mac OS Version is:      10.7.2 (Build 11C74)

My Word Version is :         14.1.3 (14.1.3)  Build Version:   0

This has just happened 3 times.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hummm.  Was not running anything unusual when this happened.  Track changes were off.  Have made various comments in response to Mich's post above.

    Thanks

Thanks for this reply and your pointers.  See my comments alongside yours.

Is this happening is just one document or all documents?

    • it has happened on various documents and for a while too.

There is a newer release (14.1.4) of Office, I don't know if that would have any impact though.

    • I have just updated to this version and will see whether the problem returns and update this thread accordingly.

Is Tracked Changes turned on?  If it is, turn it off and accept or reject all changes. Save the document, close, reopen and see if drag and drop now works.

    • track changes was not on.  I have saved, exited Word, rebooted the machine and all the works and this kept recurring intermittently

In Word > Preferences > Edit > Editing Options what boxes are checked. The default I believe is all checked except the 1st box and 5th.  You might also try turning off Smart Cut/Paste as there was problem with it on some systems that used Lion.

    • all preferences were checked except for Overtype mode. I have turned off Smart Cut and Paste on your recommendation and will give it a go.

Let us know what you find.

Once you apply the 14.1.4 update, Repair Disk Permissions then restart your Mac.

Other possible factors include how much RAM is available at the time, use of Track Changes, as well as font problems.

    Regards,

    Bob J.
