Import Template

Hello,

I'm using Access 2007.

I've created a template for importing a text file, can I copy  the template into a new blank database?  The reason being, the text files I'm importing are huge and I can't import them all into a single database.

Thanks

Yes, you can. Create the new DB. Click on External Data. Select Access. Select the db with the import spec. When the Import Objects wizard opens click on the Options button. That will expand the wizard and you should see the option to select Import/Export Specs.

That's the one you want. You don't have to select any objects. Just click OK after you check that box.

Maybe you should think about using SQL Server Express for your tables. Version 2012 can grow to 10 Gb.

    the error message is

"the search key was not found in any record.

Google search suggested the dB has become corrupt, but a compact / repair does not resolve the error and I've ended up splitting the import files into different dbases.

I would like to add, it's not one text file but multiple ones.  Each one of these imports are well over 1 million lines of data.

What errors are you getting? I can't imagine a text file containing data that won't fit into an Access database.
