Excel - MSVCR80.dll missing Error

I get msvcr80.dll missing error on Excel 2007/Windows 7 on files that I created!  Seems to happen on files with an xlsx extension.  These are spreadsheets that I created using this very version of Excel.  I've downloaded the Compatibility Pack, that didn't help.  I've searched Microsoft Downloads to see if MSVCR80.dll is a downloadable file - it's not.  Any ideas?  Did some Windows update damage me?

    Hello,

Thank you for asking the question in Microsoft Community. As I understand, you get an error stating MSVCR80.dll is missing when you try to open the Excel files (.xlsx) that you created. Do not worry, let me help you out here.

I have a few questions for you:

    1. Do you have any add-ins installed for Excel?
    2. Do you get this error when you directly open the Excel file by double-clicking on it?
    3. If yes, what happens if you first open Excel and then open these files using the ‘Open’ option?

This error is usually caused due to a damaged third party add-in. To confirm this, open Excel in safe mode  to disable the add-ins, and then try to open these files using the ‘Open’ option.

    a.       On the keyboard, press the Windows key + R.

    b.      Type excel /safe in the Open box, and then hit OK.

If the error doesn’t occur in safe mode, then disable the COM add-ins for Excel, and check if it works fine in normal mode. Refer the link given below on how to disable the add-ins.

Hope that helps. If not, let us know the status and we’ll be glad to help you further. Thank you.
