I am trying to write a template with links to save updating repetitive information. When I change file name the links still refer to the orignal document. How do I set it up so that the file name within the link automatically updates to refer to the new file name?

Brief answer - you don't. The only progarm I know that does this is FrontPage, and then only when it is FrontPage itself that changes the name. I am sure that other website construction programs do this as well, but not word processors.
