Excel Hyperlinks - Cannot Open Specified File

My colleagues and I have created an excel worksheet that maps all of the local files of a client, and includes hyperlinks to each particular file. The file has been working fine for at least a year, and has 100s of hyperlinks. Today, many (but not all) of the hyperlinks stopped working, giving us the "Cannot Open Specified File". However, the hyperlink address points to the correct file, and when we refresh the hyperlink by editing it and choosing the exact same local file, it works.

Refreshing 100s of file locations will be time consuming, tedious and redundant - is there any fix out there that anyone can think of?

Thanks

Sam

Thank you - can you give me a somewhat less technical walk through?
