I am getting problem in MS word with inserting objects. The error is "Error! Invalid embedded object". I am facing this issue even in new documents. I have even tried with Repair option on the MS office software through Control panel->Programs and Features but it did not work.

I am using MS Office Standard Edition SP on Windows 7. My user is a member of Administrator group.

I have resolved the issue.

TEMP environment variable was corrupted. Once I corrected it, the problem has gone.

Deepika, Thanks for your time.

    Hi Deepa Raj,

    Thanks for your reply.

Followed all the steps given in the article but found no use. Please find my answers to your questions below.

    • Do you have multiple versions of Office installed on the computer?

No. Only one, Office 2003 Standard Edition SP3

    • Is the issue only with Word or is it the same with other Office applications as well?

    Only with Word.

    • Where is the object saved the one which you are trying to insert?

Issue is with all objects irrespective of type and location/drive/folder.

    • Are you able to create new object within Word by insert, object and create new?

Same issue with both "Create New" and "Create from File" options.

    • Try to delete the Word Options registry key, Word Data registry subkey and check the result.

    Tried but no positive result.

I have tried few more things as below.

    1. Tried "Change->Repair & Reinstall options on Microsoft Office 2003 Standard edition software using Control panel->Program and Features but found no use.
    2. Created a new user account and tried to insert object in Word document with new user id. Strangely there is no issue with the new user. I have changed the group membership of the new user id from "Users" to "Administrators". It is working even in Administrators group.

Since I can not retain the new user account as per my company's work station security policy, I need resolution for the issue for my own user account.

For your information, my user id with which I am having the issue is a member of Administrators group and I am using Windows 7 Professional edition. This problem has suddenly started two days ago when I tried to open/close an embedded object in an existing word document.

    Thanks.

    Best Regards

    Uday
