SharePoint Online Color coding SharePoint List Item in Calendar View

I have created a SharePoint online site. Within this site I have created a SharePoint List. The function of this list is for individuals to submit time of requests and work from home requests. The type of information included in the list consists of associate name, start/end date/time, "absence type" (work from home or Vacation), proxy, etc. Under the generic Calendar view it doesn't show me which individuals are working from how or vacation based on the column field "Absence Type" so I was trying to find a way to color code it or make it distinct so users would know which was which. 115966-image.png

    Hi @Sibley Scarlett, ,

Per my research, we are not able to color code SharePoint list item in calendar view based on choice field. This link is about color coding for modern list Calendar views in SharePoint UserVoice.

As a workaround, you could create a calendar list with Calendars Overlay feature to color different "Absence Type".

1.Calendar List Settings > click category column > change the column name and type your Absence Type.

2.Create custom calendar view for each Absence Type.
Create View > Start from an existing view "Calendar" > type Absence Type in view name > Filter > Show items only when the following is true > select "Absence Type"+"is equal to"+Absence Type > repeat the process for each Absence Type.

3.modify default SharePoint calendar view > Filter > Show items only when the following is true > select "Absence Type"+"is equal to"+Blank

    4.Create Calendar overlay
Calendar overlay > New Calendar > select list and list view

Worked perfectly, thank you. I don't know if it's because I am using SharePoint Online but I had to add the "Calendar app" under my site content in order for me to have the overlay feature.
