enable vertical align middle

I've been trying for 3 hours to find a solution to this error msg when I try to vertically align text in an Office 2010 MS Word doc.

Error msg:

"align middle is disabled because it is not compatible with your web browser."

I have changed the latest edition of Internet Explorer to be my default browser and still get the same msg.

I don't even want a browser involved with MS Word, per se.

I urgently need vertical align middle in order to get a book ready for uploading to Kindle Direct Publishing by the end of the week.

I have 3 stanzas of Haiku that I want vertically centered on the page in the Word doc before I save it as an html net type doc.

I'D SURE APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP I CAN GET. SIGH.

IT HAS BEEN VERY FRUSTRATING TO SEARCH EVERY POSSIBLE WAY I CAN IMAGINE ALL OVER MS.COM TO RECEIVE NOTHING REMOTELY CLOSE IN RESPONSE.

SIGH.

THX IN ADVANCE

I guess you meant Centre rather than Middle.  What view are you in?  If not Print Layout view, try that.  And I assume that the document has not been opened from Windows Live Skydrive or a similar source.
