pointer disappearing while I type; de-checking "hide pointer while typing" not fixing the problem

Under the Control Panel mouse options, I have the "Hide pointer while typing" option unchecked. And yet, the pointer still disappears while I type, and doesn't reappear until I move the mouse. (I'm using Word 2010.) So, basically, Word hides the pointer while I type, whether I have the "Hide pointer while typing" option checked or unchecked. Anybody have a solution to this problem?

By the way, this is a problem across multiple Word documents. Not a problem when typing on the Web or in Excel.

Drivers are up to date. It's definitely an interaction between the touchpad and Word. I've even tried it across different versions of Word: 2007, 2010, and 2013...same problem in each case. If it were a hardware problem, you'd think it would occur with other applications, but it doesn't.

It seems to be an issue with the hardware drivers, try updating the drives and check if it helps.

I just tried connecting a mouse to the laptop, and while the pointer still disappears, it reappears immediately when I touch the mouse. That's not true when I just use the trackpad. When I'm just using the trackpad and not the mouse, I have to move my finger around the trackpad for a second or two to make the pointer reappear. It still shouldn't be disappearing in the first place, but the real frustration is not being able to get it to reappear instantly...it does with the mouse, but doesn't with the trackpad.

Don't know if that sheds any light on the situation.

I am working on a laptop.

I tried all of the suggested solutions without success. I appreciate the suggestions, though!

Are you working on a laptop or a desktop?

Check if the issue occurs when you open Word in safe mode and verify the status.

    ·         Hold Windows key + R.

    ·         Copy and paste, or type the following command in the Open box, and then press Enter:

    WinWord /safe

Note: There is space between WinWord and /

If application safe works try the steps mentioned in the following article and check:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541

You may also change the default printer to Microsoft XPS or OneNote 2010 and check. If changing the default printer works, then you may update the drivers for the problem printer. To change the default printer, refer to the following link:
