OneNote read-only problem while moving a section

Hello,

I right-click on a section tab and then click "move or copy". I wished to move the section to another section. But in the dialog box that appears, all my OneNote sections are indicated to be "read-only" and I am not allowed to move the section around. What might be the problem?

Additional information that might be relevant to the problem:

  1. I keep my ON files on an external hard drive and syn every evening.
  2. This happens on a Windows 7 machine.
  3. I made sure that my ON files are not read-only by right-clicking on my ON folders and clearing the checking for the read-only box under Windows Explorer.

Thanks.

Maybe a note that my external drive has a FAT32 format. This is because I use the external drive also for my Mac which cannot read NTFS format. Could this be creating the read-only problem? I do not expect so. This problem is really giving me a head ache.

    Hello Bob,

I did save it under C and opened in ON. Yes I do not have a problem in this case. I can create a section, move and copy sections around. But when I keep my notebooks on my external hard drive, this does not work. How can I solve this problem? Actually all this happened when I replaced windows 7 with windows 8. And in particular, I use a mac and installed the program parallels (which runs a windows OS on a mac fluently) and I now encounter the read only problem. What I tried is the following. On my external drive I right click on my notebook folder and uncheck read-only and click ok. This does not help. I am also the only user of my computer. So I am the admin. What is a bit strange is that although I cannot move sections, I can write and edit text on a page. I thought, if it is read-only, I would not have been allowed even to edit a page. But no, I can edit but I cannot move sections nor create new ones.

I would really appreciate your help.

    Hey Tunga,

Can you save the OneNote notebook to a local folder and check?

There are many instances where files saved on memory stick had permission issues.
