Why does Project put dates into US Format when I do a Save As to an Excel Format?

I am a UK-based User who has recently migrated to Windows 7 and Office/Project 2010. My computer is configured to the UK but when I do a Save As in Project 2010 and output to an Excel File the dates come out in US Format (mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm). I want them output in UK Format; i.e. DD/MM. What do I need to change to get this to happen? Preview shows them in UK Format.

Sorry, I was less than clear.  The errors I have seen posted are when grouping a pivot table in Excel -- not applying grouping in Project.

    Lyric,

When you say you checked your settings I assume you checked both the system setting and the Excel format setting, right?

Julie's response mentioned an issue with grouping so try this. Create a simple Project file, say one to two lines. Make the duration a few days and don't assign any resources. Now, export to Excel 2010 by creating a new export map. Does it work?

Pardon me for bumping in -- but I don't think it's a Project issue -- more likely an Excel issue if saving as Excel 2003 works as expected.  I've seen some posts regarding issues with Pivot Table issues in Excel 2010 and the locale settings getting lost with grouping.

    John,

I checked as you suggested and it is definitely UK.

I have rechecked everything else and consulted colleagues. I am definitely configured for the UK.

Further digging has discovered that if I Save As in Excel 2003 it works fine, it is only when I go with the straight Excel Option.

Furthermore I now know I'm not the only one having this problem. I have also been checking within my work area and others are having exactly the same problem.

I'm sure it is something in the default settings in Project, I've just got to find it.

    Lyric,

Are you absolutely sure you have Windows set for UK date format? When I tried a sample file, the dates appear in Excel just as they should - UK format (DD/MM). Also, make sure Excel is set to use UK format. Check it by selecting the worksheet column that holds the date data and go to Home/Cells group/Format icon. At the bottom of the drop down, hit "format cells". Select the Date category and make sure the Locale says English (U.K.).
