Problem reading docx. files

I'm using Windows XP Home SP3, Office Word 2002 SP3. Maybe 2 yrs. ago I downloaded the updates and the file format convertor program and it has worked perfectly until about 6 mos. ago. Now, it does not convert when I try to open a .docx file. All I get is a popup dialog box "Convert from" with 5 options, none of which is docx. It seems that the file format converter program is not being invoked. I have downloaded updates, installed and removed the file format converter program several times and always get the same results, no conversion. Hope one of you can help. Thanks.

My computer at the office is running Office 2007 and the .docx file opens and displays perfectly there. I also converted it to .doc, which opens and displays perfectly on the home computer running Office 2002.

It looks like we're back to getting the file format converter program to run.

Does anybody out there have some additional steps I could take to diagnose the problem?

The issue could be with corrupted document as well.

Best way to check is by opening the document in a different PC.

If it opens fine in different PC, you may use save as and save it in DOC format for now.

If it does not open in different PC, the only option is to use Open and repair feature or use 3rd party document recovery tools.
