word automatically changes proofreading language

I had Spanish set as as a secondary language as I used it periodically, but not often. Now all of a sudden Word keep making it my default and it is getting frustrating. I set it back to English but when it feels the need it just makes it Spanish again and all my typing will be proofread as incorrect! How do I stop this?

Could it be that your normal template has been switched to default to spanish.  Create a new blank doc and check the proofing language it defaulted to.

If the switch seems to happen "on the fly", it could be that you have a shortcut set on the windows keyboard languages.

Take a look at Control Panel > Region and Language > Keyboards and Languages tab > Change Keyboards... button >Advanced Key Settings.  I assume you will find more than one keyboard installed, check the shortcuts.

Maybe you are hitting the shortcuts by accident ... switching language in the middle of the document...

I checked where you told me to and I did find a shortcut that switched languages, left-alt + shift. I set the shortcut to, not assigned, so hopefully this problem is fixed for good.

    Thanks. :)

Thanks for the quick reply, but I know basic things like how to change it back to English. I want to know how to make it stop switching me back to Spanish even though I've set English as the default.
