I created a template and inserted a jpg. Saved the file as a .dotx. When I created a new documet using the newly created template the jpg was not in the backgroung so I could not type over it. How can I do that? (Keep the jpg in the background)

Thanks

Open the template.

Right-click the image.

Select Wrap Text > Behind Text from the context menu.

But a better solution is:

Delete the image.

On the Page Layout tab of the ribbon, in the Page Background group, click Watermark > Custom Watermark...

Click Picture Watermark, then click Select Picture...

Navigate to the .jpg file, select it and click Insert.

If you don't want the image to be washed out, clear the Washout check box.

Click OK.

You position the image as full-page.

Rather than a Watermark, you can simply make the image part of the background of the header (not in-line with text and not wrapping).

However, keep in mind that many (most) printers will not print edge-to-edge.
