Pivot table with relative references

I'm trying to build a project with pivot tables using relative sources. The common practice on the PC does not seem to work on the Mac. When you use an OFFSET formula to refer to a dynamic range, give it a name and try to refer to it the Pivot Table builder says "The command requires at least two sources of data". Has anyone else seen this?

I got it to work, but the offset formula cannot refer to a cell variable. My memory is this was possible on the pc side of excel. Since this does not work I have to build distinct names for each table as opposed to one name which is dynamic.
