Thesaurus not working

If I open the research pane and put a word in to search for, the response I get is, "No results found. Please search again". I am searching all the Reference Books and all the Reference Sites listed in the pull down. I have tried these individually. They all return the same result. The odd thing is, if I mouseover the word in the body of the document and right click and go to synonyms, the synonyms show up. It just appears my research pane is out of whack. Spelling and grammar work fine.

I have tried to use the repair components from  Control Panel> Programs and Features> Office> Change (and Repair both) and have uninstalled and reinstalled the proofing tools. I even recopied the files over from the install disk to their directories on the computer.

I suspect my problem is this. If you click on Research Options at the bottom of the pane, I have various reference books checked. I have unchecked and rechecked various ones with program restarts each time, and that hasn't helped. BUT, if I click on Add Services button at the bottom, it does not show any services listed at all. I copied and pasted one from another forum reply, and applied it, restarted Word, and went back and it still showed no services listed.

I have administrative privileges on this my home laptop.

Any ideas?

As you are stating that the language settings are set to English, is it set to English U.S?

Try setting Internet Explorer as default following the steps from the link mentioned below and verify the status:
