I have Office 2003. Whenever I paste something into Word, the Paste Options Button does not appear. The check-box for it is checked in Tools: Options: Edit. I searched the Internet and found that others have experienced this same problem.

OK, so after too much searching I found there is no solution for the problem, at least no till MathType 6.7. Apparently even if you modify the registry, which I did, every time you start Word the problem appears again. This is because MathType runs a set of macros that conflict with Word's functionality for smart paste. See the MathType technical note about the issue here

The only solution they propose is that you deactivate the automatic start of MathType TB with Word start up, or that you deactivate MathType TB while using word, see this technical note , in any case you have to be fully aware that the problem does exist.

Hope this save some time to more people running into the same problem :)

Are you using an "older" version of MathType? This is an issue we've fixed since v6. Current version is 6.7. You could download the trial at www.dessci.com/trial, and if it works, great. If not, all you've lost is the few minutes it took to download & install.

Even after I used this solution, the button would fail to appear when I started Word normally. I uninstalled MathType, and now the button appears as it should. It appears that MathType was causing the button to stop appearing. Problem now seems to be permanently solved!

No it did not. I experience the problem no matter if Firefox is running or not. I do not have Chrome or Skype on my computer.

However, I have resolved the problem using a suggestion I found on http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm. I typed winword.exe /a in the "Start Search" box in the Start menu, and it worked!

Did your Internet search turn up suggestions to close Firefox and/or Chrome and uninstall Skype Click to Call?
