When saving a word doc as a PDF, the original word file has a blue gradient background throughout. When opening up the PDF version, everything is exactly the same with the exception of the background which is turned into stripes. Is there any way of keeping EVERYTHING exactly the same?

Page background fills were intended for web page creation and produce some very odd effects when used for printed pages. If Doug's suggestion doesn't work and you want background gradient fill to work as you see it on screen, insert a full size text box into the page header view and fill that with the gradient fill.

Perfect! Thanks very much, you don't know how much hassle you have saved me! Did as you said, created a full length text box, hidden behind the text and added the gradient to that. Conversion to PDF has left it identical.

    Thanks again.
