visio preview not working

I uninstalled Visio Professional and installed Visio Premium. Now, the Visio Preview in File Explorer no longer works. The icon's are still showing a version of the document, put the preview pane says: No Preview available.

I've traced this thru to the registry and compared it to a working preview (such as Word).

My version of Visio is not registered in Wow6432Node/Classes/CLSID - {21E17C2F-AD3A-4b89-841F-09CFE02D16B7}

If you use a tool such as PreviewConfig for Windows, and look as the .vsd extention, it shows nothing, while for .doc it shows information about Word.

How do I restore my Visio Preview functionality?

Thanks, Torsten

Hello Torsten,

Try this download and install the visio veiwer. I have found some information that points to this fixing the issue. What I would do is this. Uninstalled Visio, reboot, installed the Viewer, Test the file preview in explorer. if it works your good. Then reinstall visio 2010.

    Thanks for this - I just installed the visio 2010 viewer on top of my existing Visio 2010 installation and the preview is now working (and the main Visio installation doesn't seem to be affected).
