split database opening in read-only

I created a database a number of years ago in Access 2003 with multiple users.  It worked fine until about a month ago when it would no longer allow multiple users to log on simultaneously.  Most of the related questions suggested splitting the database.  I decided to convert it to 2007 first, then I split it.  It works fine on my computer but all other users open in a read-only mode.  All input forms are blanks.  The database is on a shared network drive and all users of this database have appropriate permissions on this folder.  Any sugeestions?

Yes, that did have something to do with it.  Always do all designing, splitting, etc... in the same version your Users have or you could end with, as you did, issues/errors.  Glad all is working now!

I converted it to 2007 but was working off two different computers.  When I went to split it I was using a computer with 2010 on it.  When I split it using a computer with 2007 on it, it allowed users to access all forms.  I don't know if this was the only issue as the sys admin also changed some permissions but I think it must have contibuted.  It all works now, anyway.

A thought...  Did you copy form a CD, DVD or thumb drive?  Check the file and make sure it's not *Read Only*.

Each user has a copy of the front end and has been given full permission on the back-end folder.  They receive the message, "This data base has been opened in read-only.  You can only change data in linked tables...".  A trusted location for the font end has been defined in each front-end copy.  (I should note that one user does not get a message, he just can't open any input forms - the fields are invisible)

Does each user have their own copy of the Front-End?

Has each user been given full permission on the Back-End folder?

    Do they receive any messages?

Have you defined a trusted location on each user's computer for the location of their Front-End?
