Difference between Baremetal backup and full backup in 2012 and 2016 OS

Hi

I am planning to perform a bare metal backup for my Active Directory infrastructure. In case my entire AD DC are compromised I need to overcome from the situation.

Using bare metal backup I heard that from MS article we can restore the backup to dissimilar HW.

While selecting the option I can able to see two methods one is bare metal backup another is full server backup.

May I know the right option to perform the bare metal?

Please assist.

Hi,

According to the Microsoft, we could do bare metal restore to the same physical computer , or to a different physical computer that has the same make, model, and configuration (identical hardware).

It is not support to restore from one computer to a second computer of a different make, model, or hardware configuration.

Based on my knowledge, Full Server Backup is anything in your system, but Bare Metal is anything that is needed for your system's OS and its applications. And also note that, Bare Metal is already included in Full Server Backup.
