unwanted excel formatting changes

I have a problem with my excel spreadsheet changing the format when I reopen the file.  It does not affect every cell, only some. The fomatting changes from general to a date format. The only way I've found to keep this from reoccurring is to change the format of each and every affected cell individually. This took hours, as my spreadsheet tracks military vehicles. this continues to affect cells in new columns and rows. does anyone know how to stop this formatting chnage from happening all by itself??? This started after our computers were "upgraded" from Windows XP to Windows 7.

Yes, it is.  I ended up changing all the "general" cell formats to either text format  or number format.  It has been about a week, and so far, so good. No additional unwanted formatting changes.   I know how time consuming it is to have to fix the formats on all the cells.   Good luck with yours, and thank you for your reply.

Sorry, but you clearly did not read the question.

I have the same issue as describe above, but in my case the cell format is changed to Accounting.

This behaviour is very unpredictable and very time consuming to correct (each time the file is re-opened).
