When I open one of my excel files, make some changes and save, it says, "This file is both encrypted and protected. Do you .....". I do not want it to ask this question!

Hey Allwyn,

Would it be possible to copy the information into a new PowerPoint workbook? The issue could be the file is just too old and now is corrupted, so it is worth a try to see.

Keep us posted if importing the information into a new workbook resolves the Encrypted prompt. You also may want to review information on the Windows 7 Encryption pages:

What is Encrypting File System (EFS)?

Back up Encrypting File System (EFS) certificate

Remember to keep us posted. Thanks!

    Dear Raju,

I have this problem with a specific file only. All my excel files are saved in 97-2003 format only.

This particular file is very old. It is since the time Excel 1993 versions were into use. When I changed my windows to Excel 2003, it automatically asked me whether to convert the file to 97-2003 format or no and I said yes. There was no problem after that.

The problem started, I think, when I changed my windows to Excel 2007 which was around 1.5 years back.

    Thanks

Do you face this issue with all Excel files or a particular file?

Which version of Excel do you use (Excel 2003, Excel 2007, Excel 2010)?

In which format is the Excel file saved?
