Inserting predefined text

Question

My Word learning materials are not available.

How do I set  certain characters to automatically insert predefined blocks of text in documents? For instance, the combination <* could be typed but several lines of predefined text would be inserted into the document.  These 2 characters would represent this block of text.  Please direct me to the Knowledge Base articles that would help me.  Thank you.

You probably want AutoText (see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/AutoText.htm), but for some applications AutoCorrect may be more suitable (see http://word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/AutoCorrect.htm).
