I'm assembling separate chapters which have endnotes - and can't keep the endnotes from one chapter separate from those that follow another

I'm putting together a family history which has 28 chapters including photographs and endnotes at the end of each chapter.  I'm trying to assemble document

keeping each chapter separate with its endnotes.  Every time I put in the first chapter - then open the second one to copy and when I paste it onto chapter one - the endnotes in chapter 2 repeat the same number - the last endnote in chapter one.  I've tried section breaks unsuccessfully to get this to leave each chapter along - but to no avail.  Any suggestions how I can assemble the document and keep the endnotes at the back of each chapter before the next one starts.

Thanks.

Click on the dialog launcher in the "Footnotes" bare of the References tab of the ribbon and in the Footnote and Endnot dialog, check the Endnotes radio button and from the drop down at the right, select End of Section as the position for your end notes.  Then when assembling the document, insert a Section break at the end of each chapter.

Thank you very much for your help.  I was afraid that I would have to have all of the

endnotes collected at the end of the book after the last chapter.
