The workaround didn't work for me:

    Hey Jhm,

The steps for Lion should still apply perfectly for Mountain Lion. Were there specific steps you had trouble with?

Also, can you post a more recent log from after you reinstalled Office? Your first log clearly shows the Automator folder causing the install to hang, but that may have changed after you reinstalled.

    I am running Mountain Lion - 10.8.2.

I am not aware of anything non-standard about how I installed Office, other than that there are two login accounts on this computer. They share applications.

I followed the uninstall directions as best I could considering they were written for Lion.

I have Google Chrome - it is required for my work; it runs with some basic Google extensions (gmail and maps, for instance). I do not have DiskKeeper installed.

    jhm

I still have had no luck installing 14.2.4 after uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2011. I get the same error message as before. I had no Automator folder to move in the Library.

I am frustrated and do not feel that MS is taking this issue seriously.

Since the solution provided seems to have worked for many people, there must be something different about your system or setup. Please post a new question and provide as much detail as you can about what you already tried. If there is something non-standard about the way you installed office, be sure to mention it. Also mention if you have other software installed such as DiskKeeper, Google Chrome that might cause interference.

    Hey Joho_68,

I'm sorry to hear you're having a difficult time installing the 14.2.4 update. I split your post off into it's own thread so that we can better focus on your specific issue.

From the piece of the log you copy and pasted, it looks like the update installer is failing whenever it tried to deploy the Automator package. This usually stems from re-installing on top of existing installations. In general, don’t do this. Re-installing on top of existing installations can re-introduce files that should not be present.

Since moving the Automator folder didn't resolve the issue, I'd have to recommend reinstalling Office 2011. Please be sure to remove Office 2011 as described on the following links:

    Video | Uninstall Office 2011

Step-by-Step Instructions | How to completely remove Office for Mac 2011

Once you've completely removed Office 2011, you should be able to reinstall and update Office for Mac normally without any issues. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hope this helps get you up and running again!
