Endnotes not sequential

I have a document with around 60 endnotes.

Mostly they are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 . . , but numbers 7 and 8 are missing, bothe in the endnote marker and the list of endnotes at the beginning of the document.

What gives?

You might try simply switching to Draft View then back to Print Layout View in order to force Word to re-paginate the document. That may resolve it. If not...

Does the document contain unresolved Tracked Changes? If so, turn the feature OFF then Accept/Reject all changes & save the file. You should find that the numbering resolves itself.
