Error 1919, can't install MDAC

I was trying to install MS Access 2003 on my Windows 8 computer and the installation hangs with this error:

"Error 1919. Error configuring ODBC data source: Visual FoxPro Database, ODBC, error 6: Component not found in the registry. Verify that the file Visual FoxPro Database exists that you can access it."

The help files I found online told me to download and install MDAC, which I got from here. I downloaded it but running the file didn't do anything.

Do you have any other Office product of a later version installed? That might be what's causing the failure. If you do have Office 2007 or higher installed. Uninstall it and then install Access 2003. Then re-install your Office suite using the custom install so it doesn't remove Access 2003.
