Does anyone know how to set a character limits within text boxes on the master slides panel?

    As in:  Allow only a certain number of characters to be typed into the text box?

    PowerPoint doesn't offer any help there, I'm afraid.  

    With (quite a bit of) clever VBA coding you could accomplish something like this, but it'd only work if the user has an add-in containing the code installed.
