Save as Web Page Issue

When saving a selected portion of a worksheet as a Web Page, Excel 2013 always creates an empty (useless) folder along with the .htm file.  This adds a considerable amount of clutter to the parent folder, like 83 useless folders in one case.  How can I prevent Excel 2013 from creating these useless folders everytime the workbooks are saved and items are republished?

Having just migrated from Excel 2003 (at least trying to do so), I can assure you these empty folders were not created by Excel 2003.  When there were no images associated with the .htm file, the associated folder was not created.  When images or charts did appear in the worksheet selection, "saving as web page" caused an associated folder to be created and the necessary images were stored there.  When no images or charts were associated with the worksheet selection, only the .htm file was created (no folder).

*Excel 2013 creates these useless folders (which contain nothing at all) adding a ton of clutter to the parent folder.*and xl2003 -xl2007- xl2010 creates 'these useless folders' also.....

    i don't understand your thought.......

if you want Save As your file with extension .mht (Single File Web Page)

    next,

right click on .mht file and open via Internet Explorer

    or

double click and select the desired programme

Thanks for the reply, but I don't know how I am wrong about anything.  I quite understand that the .htm file and the folder are created at the same time (and that I can't delete the useless folder without deleting the file).  That's the problem.  Excel 2013 creates these useless folders (which contain nothing at all) adding a ton of clutter to the parent folder.

My question was:  How can I prevent Excel 2013 from creating these useless folders everytime the workbooks are saved and items are republished?  I don't need or want an additonal 83 empty folders to work around.  Earlier versions of Excel did not generater empty folders.  I guess the answer is:  it can't be stopped.  Another reason why "upgrading" to 2013 was a huge mistake.

    Hi,

i think that you are wrong,

folder and htm file are together

    try this....

add a picture in xls file

    then save as htm file

    now,

    open the folder

(you will see an .xml file and one or two pictures)

(right click on xml file and open it via notepad to see the code)

(even if folder it's empty you can't delete it)
