Customize Commands categories: "Macros" missing

I followed the instructions on http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm for creating a footnote macro. I got to the point of choosing "Customize" under "Tools" and discovered I don't have the command category "Macros" listed there.

Can you help?

Assuming that you meant to say "I don't have any shortcut to click and assign," I still don't know what you mean. Do you mean that you can't locate the macro you created? There will be no keyboard shortcut to assign until you have entered it in the box that says "Press new shortcut key."

I emphasize press rather than type because some users have misunderstood. In order to have, say, Alt+Shift+C appear in the box, you don't actually type that out but instead press the Alt, Shift, and C keys together.

Thank you, Suzanne, that was good to follow. I suppose the fact that I have any shortcut to click and assign still means I made a mistake upstream?

    Sorry,

In order to assign a keyboard shortcut to a macro, you have to use the Customize Keyboard dialog.

    1. Right-click on the Ribbon or QAT and choose Customize the Ribbon.
    2. In the Customize the Ribbon and keyboard shortcuts dialog, bottom left corner, beside "Keyboard shortcuts," click Customize....
    3. In the Customize Keyboard dialog, select Macros as the category.
    4. Select the desired macro in the Macros list and then press (don't type) the desired shortcut and click Assign.

Thank you, Graham, found it - sorry, it was immensely discoverable. My next question will be equally daft to you, no doubt. Sorry.

I now cannot assign a key sequence. I'm not allowed to type anything in. I wonder if I made a mistake upstream, but could not identify anything.

    With thanks for your help,

    ukkele

Customize - is a Word 2003 and earlier menu item. For Word 2010 see the section "Add Macro to the Quick Access Toolbar (Word 2007/2010)"
