Heading Numbers keep disappearing from Word Documents in Sharepoint

Numbered lists seem to disappear within a word document is being collaborated on via share point. I have not been able to track down any pattern except that now i believe it is when someone collaborates on the document via SP. We are initially using a template to create the doc and both users have the correct template installed etc.
Any advice?

    Hi @Justin Aprile

I have made a test: create a word document with heading numbers, then upload it to sharepoint and open it by two accounts at the same time.
However, I couldn’t meet the issue as you described.

    To narrow the issue,

    1. Create a new document and make sure the number shows correctly in document. -> Upload it into the same site-> Open in the Word application, to check if error occurs.
    2. Try to test in different site to check if the issue happens to specific site.
    3. Open the problematic document in Word for Web to check if the number is correct.

We have this issue as well. Seems to be related individuals possibly not having the correct template in C drive...
To fix, go to Developer > Document Template > confirm the correct template is in the top field, then go to Organizer > on the right In Normal.dotm click Close File, then Open File, select your template, select everything in the right column and click Copy all to the left, click Yes to All, then close.

This will however continue to be undone when certain users go back in the document...
I'd make sure everyone has the correct template in the correct C drive location. maybe that would help or it could be related to their Normal.dotm document in the C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates folder.
