Sync files using VPN

I use a VPN because I mainly work on wireless, but my office 365 will not recognize the internet connection. When I disable the VPN everything syncs fine.

Is there a way to get Home 365 to recognize when its on the VPN as I would prefer to use it on a secure connection.

Thanks in advance.

Paul

I'm getting the same, using VPN privateinternetaccess.com (PIA). Everything works fine EXCEPT for MS services. Groove is affected as well. The weird thing is that it will sometimes still connect even though it's saying it isn't.

Latest reply from VPN provider (again pointing to Microsoft to provide the solution): We have never seen the issue but our blocked ports list is only 25, 53, 123 - none of which have anything to do with Office. The issue is not likely a port issue. Could be an issue with the service not working properly with VPN due to added latency, routing and a large list of other possabilities. However, we do not block any ports that could cause a conflict and none of our other large customer base has reported any similar issue. There is not much I can suggest other than it is not a port issue.

Please let me reply with this finding -

When not connected to VPN, no login problems to office. When connected to VPN I receive a network not available message. Ideas?

    Can reproduce this result repeatedly.

No sorry there is nothing much that i can suggest , checking your configuration you do not have any of the listed ports above

but the issue seems to be the configuration of the software in question and there is nothing much that we could suggest there

Using VPN and trying to log into Office 365 is definitely a port issue.  How to solve it is the question.  The VPN provider asks that Microsoft be contacted, and Microsoft refers you back to the VPN provider.  It would help just to know which ports Office 365 uses,  then they could be excluded in the VPN client.

Version is home premium, files are any documents (excel, one note, and word).

In the main options menu there is a notifications:

"NO INTERNET CONNECTION (yes, capital letters).  "Its looks like you are not connected to the internet, you may not be able to access files until you go online".

There is a band that goes through the top of the document, under the ribbon bar that say the same:

Its looks like you are not connected to the internet, you may not be able to access files until you go online".

    BUT>>>>

I cannot reproduce the error that shows up on the page today, one note seems to be updating, by chance was that the latest patch fix that I downloaded?  The main menu warning is still there, but I cannot open files on the cloud (live drive) I get the above mentioned warning. It instead opens a dialog window to select a file from local\users\paul\skydrive If I save the file there, the upload center will eventually send them up despite the warning but opening them is a no go as it only will only so local files.

Sorry, really confusing, I'm having a hard time explaining.

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Community.

    I need some details:

What is the edition of Office 365, is it home premium or university?

Where are you trying to sync the file to and what type of files?

Provide the required details, so that we can assist you better.

    Thank you.
