Recurring task with fixed task for same resource

Hi All,

We am new in MS Project 2013. Recently we started using this. We are scheduling the project work for our team members.

We had came across that, when we have one recurring task and another fixed task for a resource to work on same period the fixed task time is not calculated

properly.

Example: Task one is daily 2 hours work and another task is 5 days work in same week. It means if we schedule this these two task for a resource for a week.

Then 2-3 hours recurring task is going to take 10 (0.25 Day) hours for that particular week and another task time should be moved (5 days +(0.25day).

We are unable to do it in MS Project 2013. We search a lot but no luck.

Can any tell/suggest how to do it.

Thank you,

Dev82

Ensure your leveling options are set to "allow splits" and level the resource.  The recurring tasks have a leveling priority of 1000 (do not level).  Task 1 will be split to schedule 6 hours of work per day around the 2 hours for the recurring task.

See:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/distribute-project-work-evenly-level-resource-assignments-HA010379415.aspx

for details on resource leveling.

I think we are missing something.

    let's take it simple.

I have a task1 for day and another task2(Recurring) for 2hrs. And I have to work on both task. I spent my first 2 hrs on task2 and remaining 6 hrs on task1.  Still i have to work on task1 to complete for which i need to work on next day 2 hrs. So how can we schedule it in MS project.  So that I will not be overallocated.

The duration of task 2 is not the sum of the durations of tasks 3 - 7.  It is the span of time from the start of task 3 to the finish of task 7.

Why should task 1 be 10 hours later?  Your resource "Dev" is overallocated (red).

I'm not sure I understand exactly what your question is.

I'm guessing you have created a 2 hour daily recurring tasks and assigned your resource.  The task will by default be scheduled from 08:00 to 10:00 and the resource will be assigned at 100% generating 2 hours of work per day.

The second task - is it 40 hours of work or is it 30 hours of work? Should the resource be working 6 hours per day taking up the rest of the resource's time ?  If you assign the resource to both tasks at 100% s/he will be overallocated.
