Problem opening files Microsoft office 2003

I am trying to open word documents which are stored in my documents.

The files are all listed but when i double click to open, the page just comes up blank with the following message error.

windows cannot find 'C:\Documents and settings\user\My Documents\file name.doc'

I have even tried creating a new document and saving it to my documents.  I then try to read it and get the same scenario.

I have downloaded latest version of Adobe Reader hoping this would help but no joy.

Have also searched and made sure all programs are enabled.

would appreciate any suggestions

Aah  When i open word first and go in via File > open, all documents open ok.

Even the ones on my usb stick will open using this method so a big thank you.

At least I can access the files even if I have to go a long way round to do so.

Can you throw any light on why then they are not accessible going straight into them under My Documents?  It now seems to be intermittent.  Sometimes it works this way and I think all is well.

Next time I try I am back to square one.

    Thanks for your help

So what happens if you start Word and open your doc via File>Open?

I don't know if this will help but you could open OneDrive account and see if you can access your documents in OneDrive.

PS: I have moved all my documents to OneDrive and they are updated in real time.

Thanks Doug I had already tried that but tried again and no joy.

The word documents are still showing nothing when opened.  The pdf files open ok but not the word ones.

I have quotes saved which I need to access regularly and although it says the quote holds say 24.5kb in the panel on the left, when the file is opened there is nothing there to read.

Its totally driving me nuts. I can type a new quote, save to my documents and the same thing happens immediately i try to view it. Its not there!!!!
