My product key has been setup & installed since buying this computer. I have never had a problem until today. When trying to activate office I continue to get this: "Sorry, we ran into a problem while trying to install the product key. If this keeps happening, you should try repairing your office product. System error 0xe06d7363" I've tried repairing it several times & nothing helps.

Hello,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

This issue may occur if there is another version/edition of Office installed on the computer, or if you have remnants of a previous installation of Office.

Since repairing the Office installation has not worked, it would be best to uninstall Office and reinstall it. Let us follow these steps:

First check what type of internet connection you use (Wired or Wireless)?

If you are using a wireless connection then you may try to hardwire the connection. Once this is done continue with these steps.

  • In order to uninstall Office remnants from your computer, you will have to install and run the Office 365/2013 FIXIT tool.
  • Download, install and run the Office 365/2013 FIXIT tool from the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501
  • Once you have completed running the FIXIT make sure to restart your computer.
  • Now try logging into the My Account page and install Office 365. The URL for the My Account page is http://office.com/myaccount. Sign-in to the My Account page with your Microsoft Account Credentials. Microsoft account credentials would be your Outlook.com or Hotmail.com or Live.com email account or any other account which you have used for the Office 365 purchase registration.

Check if you were able to download and install Office 365 successfully. After completing this check if Office 365 prompts you for activation. If yes, proceed with the steps on screen and activate Office 365 – you may activate by signing in with your Microsoft Account credentials or your Product Key. Once the above steps are completed, restart the compute once again. Check if you are able to work with the Office applications normally.

Hope the above steps help. Let us know the result.

Thank you.

    Mohan,

It seems that the recommended solution from Microsoft is to reload my Office version.

However, I have a University version that only gets one reload before it expires.  Since my password simply quit working and the solution is to reload it, how do I get another allowable reload to get me back to where I started?

What I am worried about is if I use my 'single reload' due to a Microsoft software fault, then what happens if I need it in the future again?  For example if my laptop broke, or if I upgraded to another laptop before my 4 year license for the Office software expires?  Or if the password quits working again?  I have only been using my version of the software for about 1 year.

Is there any other solution besides the reload?  Or more specifically, is there any other solution that does not directly affect my license restrictions?

    Thanks

    Hello Reuben,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community.

In order to resolve this issue try opening Outlook as Administrator and try activating using Username and Password option and the check if the issue resolves.

Navigate to the following location and open Outlook:

From Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\Office15 or C:\Program Files (x86)*Microsoft Office 15\root\Office15.

Note: If you are on a 64 Bit computer (64 Bit Windows) then you will find the Office15 folder in the following locations.

From your Windows Explorer: Browse to the location C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX86\Root\Office15 or C:\Program Files (x86) \Microsoft Office 15\ ClientX64\Root\Office15

Find Outlook or Outlook.exe and right-click on the file and click on Run as Administrator. Once Outlook opens check if you are again prompted to enter the Microsoft Account credentials to activate Office. If yes, enter your Microsoft Account Credentials (Username and Password) and check if the issue resolves.

After completing the above step close Outlook, restart the computer and check again if the issue in Outlook resolves.

    Thank you.
