OneNote returns Permission Error message

Today when I opened OneNote, my last opened notebook is opened, but I get the message "We're sorry, your account doesn't seem to have permission to edit this notebook.  Click here to try again."  I 'click here', but get the same error message.  I try closing and reopening OneNote - same result.  I am using the same computer, same login, same-same all down the line.  The files are on SkyDrive.  I do not use any other computer to access these files, so it isn't as if some other computer changed the access permissions.  WTF?

As it turns out, Microsoft had blocked access due to 'Unusual Activity'  No further explanation.  I only discovered this when I tried to load a different Notebook, as the last notebook edited (and the one I wanted access to) loaded automatically. (Probably from a local copy?)  After discovery that SkyDrive was inaccessible, I was forced to reset my password in order to gain access.  Better reporting from Microsoft would have been helpful.  Even better would have been an email to the address registered to the account informing me that a problem existed.  Shoddy work at best.  Without confirmation of cause of 'Unusual Activity' I have no way of identifying possible sources to protect against.  Damn shoddy work.

Sadly, no - no access via the installed application or via online:

When I login to OneNote Online and try to open my notebook, I'm getting the following:

    Certificate-based authentication failed

This server requires a certificate for authentication, and didn't accept the one sent by the browser. Your certificate may have expired, or the server may not trust its issuer. You can try again with a different certificate, if you have one, or you may have to obtain a valid certificate from elsewhere.

    Error code: ERR_BAD_SSL_CLIENT_AUTH_CERT

I just started getting this error on my iPad and iPhone that I have been using with OneNote for months.  Logins from Microsoft OneNote for Mac and OneNote in Windows Office 2010 and 2013 were all fine.

The solution was to login to live.com from my iPad using Safari, and selecting the checkbox that says I use this machine frequently.

However, I have two live.com accounts (one for personal and one for business).  Both accounts were giving me the same error message.  When I logged in using Safari to my personal account, it fixed the business account also.

The bottom line is that "security measure" might be completely useless.  If I can authorize one device using one account, and it automatically authorizes the same device to use another account, then what security is that?
