Excel Crashes While Calculating a Formula

Anonymous

When changing the value of one cell, Excel freezes while it updates multiple cell formulas throughout the document. For example, when Cell 1A is changed to "1,000" Cell 3B will update with a new value because it uses Cell 1A, Cell 5C will update with a new value because it uses Cell 3B.

The file is only 1.45MB.

I do not experience this issue with Excel 2010. I have installed Office 365 Excel 32 & 64 bit. I have tested the document on multiple computers.

Microsoft doesn't allow you to install both 32 bit & 64 bit, so only one was installed at a time.

The comma was not added into cell A1.

I tried to delete/change all private information, but it seems that even though a cell is not part of a formula, making any changes causes the file to freeze. Since there are several worksheets with private information, providing a sample file does not seem to be feasible.

    Karrie:

Not a good idea to have both 32 and 64 bit installed. I doubt you need the 64 bit; so use Control panel to uninstall it.

Then do a repair from the same Control Panle application - use change application, then specify repair

I do hope your fingers just added the comma as you typed this message and you actually entered 1000 in to cell A1.

Please note that we reference cells with column first then row, so it is A1 not 1A.

If you still have problems, download a sample files (delete any private info) to a file share site, and tell us were it is.

    Happy New Year
