Missing symbols?

I recently restarted my font collection because I was having trouble viewing slides in PowerPoint. After restarting the fonts,  I was able to view all slides correctly. However, now in Microsoft Office 2011, I've noticed that I was missing some fonts and some of the symbols are missing:

When I try to make arrows using -->/=> or <--/<= it turns into:

and when I am doing bullets, some of the bullets turn into this symbol (on C and F):

I'm wondering if this is a certain font that accidentally got deleted and what font it exactly is.

Thanks!!

Well, you may be missing a font, but the indication you have there is normal.  Since you have not shown the name of the font, I can't tell.

Not all fonts contain all characters.  To solve your issue, change to a different font in that dialog: a different selection of characters will appear.  You can choose your bullets from any font you like.

The usual font is Wingdings, and you should have three Wingdings fonts on your system.  They are supplied with Microsoft Office.  You should find them in your Fonts folder, in the Microsoft folder.

Hope this helps

    Thanks John!

That solved a bit of my problem, but it seems I'm missing a couple of symbols:

I'm thinking it may still be a missing font?

That's unlikely to be a font.

In Word, you should define the characters that you wish to use as bullets.

    Look in Format>Bullets and Numbering...

In the Outline Numbered tab there is a selection of Number - and Bullet - templates.

Click the Customise button to set them up the way you want them.  You can choose both the font and the character for each bullet.  Note that the changes you make will be stored only in the current document, unless you use Format>Style... to make the changes AND click "Add to template".

    Regards

Create a new user account and the check how the symbols behave: http://www.ehow.com/how_4577865_user-account-mac-os-x.html
