    Hi Maneesh,

Before we proceed I need more details:

When do you get this error message, is it while performing the update for Office or for Windows?

If this error appears while performing update for Office 2010, then this error might occur when the MSO Cache folder has been deleted, which holds the Local Installation Source (LIS) for the Office programs, it is used to repair, reinstall, or update Office programs.

Do you have the installation media and product key for Office 2010?

If so, you may remove and re-install Office 2010 from the computer. To remove Office 2010 run the fixit from the following link:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/repair-office-programs-HA010357402.aspx

Now, re-install Office 2010 using the product key that came along with the purchase and check if you can update Office 2010 installation.

You may also refer to the thread link which talks about similar issue and check if it helps:

Hope the suggestions provided is helpful.
