Problem creating linked Outlook table in Access

Anonymous
2014-11-04T03:57:15+00:00

Microsoft Office 365 Small Business Premium

In Access I am trying to import the Outlook Contact List.

External Data - Outlook Folder

Import Source Data (Or Link to Data Source, same issue)

Select the Outlook Address Book

Select the Contact List

All the data imports correctly ( Names, addresses etc ) except email addresses. Access does not appear to see the "E-MAIL" field.

There are no error messages. I have tried importing to a new table and also tried creating a linked table. Same issue

Suggestions ?

With Outlook 2003, I could import an Access table directly into my Outlook 2003 contacts.

With Outlook 2007, I could still import the same Access table but only if I left the Access database in the 2003 format. With Office 365 University/Office 2013, is there any way to import an Access 2013 table into Outlook 2013? If not directly, does anyone have an Access 2013 report that generates Access Contacts in VCARD format for import into Outlook 2013? If not, can I link an Access 2013 table to Outlook 2013 contacts such that the Access data trumps the Outlook data? I can not use a comma delimited format because my data contains many commas. I tried a tab delimited file but Outlook 2013 lacks an option for importing that format.

Is there anyway to add fields to Outlook 2013 Contacts? For example, I need both the person's title (Mr, Mrs, Ms, Dr, military ranks, Reverend, etc.) and their degree(s) (MD, PhD, RN, RD, PharmD, etc). Most important, I need an [As Of] field for the date that the data was last verified.

I'm afraid I don't have a solution to your current quandary, but thought I'd mention....

These forums are primarily manned by unpaid volunteers (simply put, fellow users), not MS employees, so do not count on getting any direct interaction with anyone from MS.

If you truly want tech support from MS, you will have to contact their technical support line and be prepared to pay.  They offer little to no support otherwise!

    I have tried the following:

Repair MS Office - Same Issue

    Remove & Re-Install Office - Same Issue

    But....If I ....

Install Office to another computer (Win-10 Tech Preview)

and copy the Access file to the other computer

It then imports correctly !!! ( both as a new table and linked table )

I then copy the updated Access file back to the original computer ( Win 8.1 Pro )

If imported contacts is a linked file, then the "Email Type" and "Email Address" fields disappear.

If imported contacts is a new table, then the "Email Type" and "Email Address" fields are OK.

    So what is different ???

OS Win 8.1 Pro with Norton 360

OS Win 10 Tech Preview with Win 10 Defender

This seems to imply an issue with Office on Win 8.1 Pro

This is truly bizarre ! I really need this to work as a linked table, not a new table

Application Event Log is showing Event ID 27, maybe a clue, but I don't know what to do about it.
