"Can't Insert Object" message

Hi,

I 've had the same spreadsheets for a long time.   They contain comboboxes.

Today,  the mouse icon does not switch to a pointed finger when you hover over the dropdown arrow button and if I go into Developer/Design Mode I can't open the properties for the combobox.   Only the properties for the spreadsheet show.   It's almost as though Excel has suddenly quit recognizing the combo boxes.

If I try to create a new one...  I get a "Can't Insert Object" message box.  ??

This is for an ActiveX box.   Not a Form Box which I don't like.

Has anybody heard of this happening?

I'm on a network in an office.   Could the IT guys have done something?

This is doing this on all my different excel files.   I'm going to take one home tonite and try it on my home computer to see what happens.

This is weird.  Thanks for your time in advance,

Amy

Thanks, that's definitely a lot better answer than uninstalling the security patch

    Try this: http://excelmatters.com/2014/12/10/office-update-breaks-activex-controls/
