OneNote 2010 Print Driver Missing

Today I attempted to use OneNote 2010 for the first time in a couple of years and discovered that I can't insert PDF, or Excel, or Word files using the "File Printout" option in the "Insert" tab on either my laptop or my desktop.  I am also unable to print to OneNote 2010 from Adobe Acrobat XI, Word 2010, or Excel 2010.

Both PC's are running the Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit operating system. There is no "Send to OneNote" driver on either PC.  There are some differences in how the problem unfolds on my two PC's, and these are stated at the bottom of this post, in case they are relevant.

I tried to install a Print to OneNote driver by running "repair" for Microsoft Office 2012 on both PC's (several times).  This did not solve the problem.

I also tried to manually install a generic print driver and configure it to OneNote but was unable to do so because there is no "Send to OneNote" option in the list of ports.

When researching the issue online, I found some fixes for OneNote 2007 on a 64-bit PC but all of the postings indicated that the problem should not be present in OneNote 2010.  Unfortunately I am experiencing this problem with OneNote 2010 on Windows 7 Premium PC's.

Laptop Issues:

I recently upgraded my laptop from Office 2007 to Office 2010. Office 2007 was not uninstalled, since some of the features are not included in Office 2010.  However, I manually disabled those features of Office 2007 which are included in Office 2010.  OneNote 2007 was installed by Lenovo and configured for a tablet PC.

There is no "Send to OneNote" printer listed in "Devices & Printers."  When I attempted to insert a file into OneNote 2010 using the "File Printout" option, the following error message opened:  "The Send to OneNote print driver requires the Microsoft XPS Essentials pack to be installed on hyour computer.  Do you want to download this component now?"

When I clicked on "Yes" I was taken to a web page for downloading "Microsoft XML Paper Specification Essentials Pack." I attempted to download the "XPSEP Vista 64 bit" version and this resulted in a message indicating that "The update is not applicable to your computer."

I also attempted to manually create a "Send to OneNote" printer.  However, there was no "Send to OneNote" port in the list of available ports.

Desktop PC Issues:

I installed Office 2010 on my desktop PC in June of 2012.

Although there IS a "Send to OneNote" printer listed in "Devices & Printers," when I attempted to insert a file into OneNote 2010 using the "File Printout" option, the following error message opened:  "The file you have selected cannot be inserted as a Printout.  There may be a problem with the file, or you may not have the right program installed.  You must first install a program that can open and print this file type, and then try again."

When I attempted to print to OneNote 2010 from Adobe Acrobat XI, a "Send to OneNote 2010" printer option was available, but when I selected it, the file printed to my default printer instead of to OneNote 2010.

When I right-clicked the "Send to OneNote 2010" printer in "Devices & Printers" and selected "printer properties," a message appeared to advise that "The 'Send to Microsoft OneNote 2010 Driver' printer driver is not installed on this computer.  Some printer properties will not be accessible unless you install the printer driver.  Do you want to install the driver now?"  I clicked "yes" and followed the instructions in the "Welcome to the Add Printer Driver Wizard" but there was no print driver listed for OneNote.  The only Microsoft print drivers listed were 2 versions of "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" & "Remote Desktop Easy Print." When I clicked "Windows Update" to find additional printer drivers, there were no Microsoft print drivers listed.  Therefore, I was not able to install the "Send to Microsoft OneNote 2010" print driver.

Please tell me how to fix this problem.

Hi Rebecca,

Have you tried repairing the Office 2010 on both the machines?

Repair the Office as suggested in the following link and check if it helps:

Reply with the results to assist you further.

This procedure worked, even though I had tried it without success several times before.

    Thanks for your help.
