Equation error message

I am having trouble with the Equation tool (i.e. Insert -->; object --> Microsoft Equation 3.0 in my Microsoft 365 package.

I can't get the above mentioned Equation tool to work. Whenever I try to enter an equation (or edit an existing one) I get the error message:

"The program used to create this object is Equation. That program is either not installed o your computer or it is not responding. To edit this object, install Equation or ensure that any dialog boxes in Equation are closed".

Equation has always worked in the past. I've reset my computer, but no joy. I had recently installed the Foxit PDF viewer, I wonder whether that did the damage. I've uninstalled it, restarted, and still no joy.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Hello Dylan,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I am sorry that you are facing issues with using Equation Editor in Word 2013 and you receive an error message. I will be helping you with this issue.

Since the Equation Edition 3.0 is not working in Word 2013 and resetting the computer has also not worked, we shall try the following step.

First, check if the Equation Editor 3.0 works in Excel 2013 application. Do you get the same error?

As a first step we shall try repairing the Office 365. Navigate to Programs and Features in Control Panel by following these steps:

  1. On the main Start Screen type Control Panel in the Search box on the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  2. Once Control Panel opens click on Programs and / or Programs and Features.

Now repair the current Office 365 installation following the steps as given below:

  1. Right-click on the Office 365 program and then click on Change.
  2. Click Quick Repair.
  3. After the above is completed, make sure to restart your computer.

Check if you are able to use the Equation Editor normally in Word 2013.

Let us know the result.

Thank you.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. It was useful. While the quick repair threw another error message, the full online repair (uninstall/re-install) was useful.

Basically follow the instructions above, but select the online repair and follow the prompts. Make sure you remember all of your logon details, and as a guide, I'd also turn off your antivirus software while you do the install. I use Avast, which blocked Word the first time that I tried to use it.

Thanks,

-Dylan
