I have a document that when I attempt to save it the save command switches to save as?   Why?   This is 32 bit MS Word 2013 on 64 bit Windows 7.

The document does contain embedded versions of MS WOrd and MS Excel files.

    Hi,

As mentioned earlier, queries related Macros (files created through Macro/ Macro enabled files) or VBA code will be better addressed in Office Programming section of Microsoft Office Community.

Let's verify if this issue occur when you try saving any new Office application (Word/Excel) files?

I look forward to your reply to assist you further.

    Thank you.

    Thanks  Daniel,

I will, but since the macro is no longer involved after data creation I entered it here as well hoping someone can tell me why an attempt to save a document would switch to save as which appears to be an endless loop.

Can the versions of Word / Excel cause an issue?   I am still struggling to figure out what to look for.

    Thanks for your reply.

    1. A macro creates the document so we have different flavors and would need to constantly fix.    I would be unable to share the current document.
    2. The embbeded files are contained within the document (not linked outside).
    3. The problem seems size related.   When the overall document is above 5 Meg the problem appears.

Another strange phenomenon we have observed that may or not be relevant:   Using CTRL-A, F9 on these documents the first time fails to prompt you and correct the table of contents, list of tables and list of figures.   The second attempt will prompt you if you want to update the entire table and not just the page numbers (3 times, one for each list).
