AutoCorrect changes the font

Hello! I want "phi" to autocorrect to to the Greek letter phi ("φ") in Times (ditto for "psi"). But when I type in "phi" it autocorrects to the Greek letter, but does so in a font called, "MS 明朝 (Body Asian)". How can I change this?

You've never stated, nor has anyone asked, exactly what steps you're taking to create the AutoCorrect Entries, but...

In order for those options to be active you must insert the With: item into the document & select it before going into the AutoCorrect dialog. Be careful to not select the ¶ following the character (if there is one)... Select only the character but include a trailing space if you wish.

The selected content will be included in the With: field automatically -- You need only enter the Replace text & select the Formatted text option.

I'd also offer 3 other suggestions:

  1. Use the OS X Character Viewer to insert the symbols into a document in the preferred font [rather than Word's symbol tools],
  2. Select an OpenType TrueType font [such as Times New Roman] rather than Times, &
  3. Make sure your installation of Office 2011 is fully updated [14.3.9 is current].

Instead of placing φ in the clipboard, try doing as Bob mentioned: select the character, then go to AutoCorrect. You'll find both buttons enabled.

Have you tried defining the entry as "Formatted text"? If I do that over here, it works. Otherwise, with the "Plain text" option it inserts it in the Asian font.

    Thanks for your reply!

I have tried all of the suggestions in the thread that you linked to. But with no success. My fonts for the "phi" and "psi" symbols continue to automatically change to MS 明朝 (Body Asian).
