Changing the Default Fonts and Adding Macros

I cannot get my template (normal) to save once I close Word. I've reset the font/size/paragraph spacing for new docs, by updating Normal.dotm and modifying it.  Any new files I open while in Word follow my new style, but when I close the program, it defaults back to Calibri 11.

Also, any time I create a macro, they work on the new files, again, until I close Word. Upon reopening the program, I get the error message “the macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your macro security settings”. I’ve changed the settings to accept all macros.

I feel the problem has something to do with my “normal” file.  I have searched the 'boards' here, but nothing I've tried has worked.

It would be great if someone could help me via screensharing.

See  Add-Ins in Microsoft Word and Normal Template in Microsoft Word - How to Find or Open the Normal Template.  Jay Freedman laid out the steps for changing the default font in this thread. However that assumes that the normal template will save changes when you close Word. That does not happen if an Add-In interferes. On corporate systems sometimes a well-meaning IT professional sets the normal template to be refreshed (recreated) when the user logs in. The first two links deal with the Add-In problem. IT interference is beyond the scope of this site. You’ll have to deal with the office politics.
