suspect file with beginning ._

When i save a file in office for mac 2011 and open the directory with the file on a windows pc, there is always an second file with the same name only at the beginning is the ._ (have always a sice of 4kb). Is this a compatibility file of office mac or what and can i turn off, that this file will be created?

files that begin with . or ._ are invisible files. Open the file with the largest size with the same name.

Macs use a Two fork file system (a resource fork and a data fork) PC have data and resources combined. In the two fork system Resources tells the Mac what application(s) should be able to open the file.

Ignore any files that start with: "." or **** "._"

    Phillip is right on the money. You will always see an extra ._ file in Windows when Mac OS puts a file into a WIndows directory. The cure is to go to Windows preferences and turn off Show Hidden File Names.
